Meet Lodge Road Car Park for a  more than interesting walk through Epping Forest to see our friends and their latest conservation work at Copped Hall.  Travel north to Wakes Arms (now "Old Orleans") Roundabout, a few yards further on look out for a bus stop on the right. Lodge Road is exactly opposite.  There is a bar above the entrance and the car park is on the left.

Meet at Benington for a delightful village walk. Take the A10 north, turn left on to A602 towards Stevenage, continue quite a way till about the fifth turning on the right, take the Whempstead road and continue to Benington. Go through this long village to The Green and park alongside St Peter’s Church opposite. You are very welcome to join Gill for lunch in one of the village pubs. Sorry, no toilets at the start!

Saturday

18th September

10.30am

Meet 10.30 am. Northaw Great Wood near Cuffley. Ancient and beautiful woodlands in a country park. The route has been amended since our last visit and now avoids the more extravagantly muddy areas! From the B156, after Cuffley BR station, turn right at the T-junction, onto the B157. Plough Hill winds round to the left and becomes The Ridgeway. After two miles or so the entrance, signposted 'Great Wood', is on the right. We will meet in the car park by the Visitors' Centre. There is an 'honesty box' for £1 charge or free parking on The Ridgeway. No stiles, toilets at the Centre. A reasonably priced and very good pub lunch is available nearby in Northaw, if you wish to join us.
